Weekly Spelling Point Activities

25 Points Required Per Week

Directions: Choose a combination of activities to complete at school when you have extra time or at home. The value of the activities you do must add up to at least 25 points in order to receive credit for doing spelling homework. Turn in your Spelling Activities by Thursday with all papers/projects to show your work. Check off the activities you are doing on this sheet, label each paper/project with the activity number, and staple them to this sheet. Each activity must be done on a separate sheet (no combining activities). You get good practice each time you write the word! Have fun - be creative!

Remember, You may only do each activity one time per week.

5 Point Activities:

  1. Write each word and circle the vowels in red.
  2. Write each word and circle the consonants in blue.
  3. Write each word NEATLY in PEN.
  4. Write each letter of each word in a different color.
  5. Make a set of flash cards for studying your words.
  6. Scramble the words. Example: eaplp (for apple)

10 Point Activities:

  1. Alphabetize the words.
  2. Make a spelling pyramid of each word:  a

15 Point Activities:

  1. Write the words and a synonym (a word that has the same meaning) or a phrase with the same meaning. Use a Thesaurus!
  2. Type the words five times each - you choose the font!
  3. Glue down Alpha-Bits cereal onto small popsicle sticks to spell each word.
  4. Make a word search using the words. Ask Mr. Eyre for a blank one or click here to create one on the Internet and solve it yourself! (Be sure to ask for your parent’s permission). Don't confuse this with the crossword puzzle. This word search is worth 15 points. The crossword puzzle takes more effort and is worth 25 points.

20 Point Activities:

  1. Use each word in a sentence and underline the spelling word.
  2. Spell the words with Scrabble tiles then add up the point value using the numbers on each tile. Write the words in order according to their point value.
  3. Classify each word according to its part of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb).
  4. Write a definition for each word. Use a dictionary.
  5. Write the words in a code. Provide a key to your code.

25 Point Activities:

  1. Make a crossword puzzle using the words and definitions. You may use graph paper or click here to create one on the Internet (Be sure to get permission).
  2. Write tongue twisters using all the words (a sentence where most of the words begin with the same sound).
  3. Use all the words in poetry.
  4. Write a story using all the words. Underline each word.
